In my opinion, Madrid is a very big city, and for this it's imposible that Madrid turns into a "slow city". I would divide the city in a few smaller independent cities. Each neighborhood would be a own city, and their citizens wouldn't to go out to their city for shopping, visit museums or walk in a park. I think if there are a lot of independent cities, each city could turn into a "slow city", and go to the other "independent city" would be like a journey!

I think it`s so dificult turns Madrid into a slow city. In our days many people take the car to get around Madrid or if they take the Metro, lots of people are in a hurry or like me they eat so fast because have little time for meal.
I suggest doing more pedestrian areas and taking away lost of parking places, because if there aren`t parking places, there aren`t cars. But I think that it`s impossible.

The main problem, I think, is that Madrid is the spanish capital so there are too many businesses and then, there are too many people who live in there or who have to come from the suburbs and, even, from nearby towns to work, therefore, there are too many cars and people and the changes can affect many people. The solutions? maybe you can ban the traffic in the city center for some hours but you have to build lots of car parks around the city for people who have come from suburbs and you have to improve the public transport: more options, more economic... Then you could make more pedestrian zones, places to sit and have coffe or read, green areas... but it’s a madness!!!!!

  5. In my opinion, Madrid never could not be a "slow city" because there is too much pollution and it is a big city. The principal problem is the citizens. We are sedementary people, we rather prefer go by bus to the centre than walk. So we use too much our particular car, and it is not only the most problem in the future,we see the consecuences in the present.
The solutions that I can do. Firstly, I would ban car traffic in the center and around. Secondly, I would only allow bus or bikes traffic in that zones. And last but not least, I would create more green zones with parks, lakes, etc. like Casa de Campo, Madrid Rio or Retiro park.

The problem is that Madrid is the capital city. There are a lot of people that want to visit theis conuntry for many things, culture ,history ,habits, gastronomy and many other things.

From the point of my view It is imposible to change Madrid.

I love living in Madrid,I know that Madrid has too much trafic, too many restaurants, a lot of fast food, many motorbikes, a lot of pubs, discos, nightclubs, and big and small bars. But if Madrid wants to change, it will need to build new parkings, new pedestrians areas, restrict the trafic in the centre .etc...and Madrid don´t have space enough...

Even we can say that there are less gree areas day by day.

Madrid is a big city and since 1561 is the Capital of Spain. Felipe II moved the Court to Madrid, one of reason was because Madrid had a lot´s of trees, and the rains quickly cleared the atmosphere. (A teacher told us this). So now the city have changed, have a lots pollution and many local businesses. But now its necessary have a big city for develop the economy. We have light contamination, we can´t see the stars in Madrid, but we like go to Madrid and visit the museums, eat in a restaurants, go to the disco… the solution should be more pedestrians zone and bike lane, and make gardens and green zones. But I think in the center of Madrid is impossible. Although near to the center of Madrid have a project “Valdebebas” it’s a future neighborhood with a big park like “Retiro”, a many bike lanes. The project wants a city green and healthy.

Madrid is a city too big to be a slow city, too much people, too much noise. There should be more green areas that would provide moisture to the city and keep down the noise of the city. My opinion is that parks are places of assembly and relax, very important for the balance of the city. In every neighborhood should have at least one.

From my point of view, i think that is normal that the Capitol of a country, in that case, Madrid in Spain, be a "Slow food" city. Because works many people in there, with business, markets, shops... Also have many traffic and a lot of people walk very fast. This, get a feel how a little stress situation. And not all people likes live in there. In consecuence, Madrid is impossible to be a "Slow city". She would need less traffic, more green places to have a rest, and people walk of a relax form. Maybe follow this aspects the city can improve and have more stability.

    1. I think there are a lot of problems to turn Madrid in a 'slow city'. Because, Madrid is full of multinational shops and businesses, there is too much traffic and noise and it isn't easy to use public trasnport because it's very expensive. And if you want to use your bike, it´s practically imposible because there aren't enough cycle lanes.
I could suggest to do cheaper the public transport, and to do more cycle lanes.
And I suggest not to do more multinational shops and businesses and to encourage the trade national and traditional.

Madrid is a commercial and business city. I think the principal problem is the excessive use of cars and the inexistence of a cycle lane and there are very few pedestrian zones. In other hand to open more little supermarkets in the city centre, and any Corte Inglés more, could be a solution for people to spend more time cooking real meals and enjoying eating. But the most interesting thing would be to can work six hours a day, since eight a.m to two p.m or since three to nine. Could there were work to everybody and time to enjoy the rest of the day, walking down green areas, or doing some relaxing activity.
